Senator Miranda Secures $1.85 Million for Second Suffolk District as Senate Advances $1.57 Billion Supplemental Budget

By Senator Liz Miranda

Last Thursday, the Massachusetts Senate passed a $1.57 billion Fiscal Year 2026 supplemental budget prioritizing municipal relief, regional equity, and Fair Share investments in education and transportation while advancing policy solutions to protect immigrant communities, lower housing costs, and expand primary care access.

Within this broader legislation, Senator Miranda secured $1,850,000 in targeted funding for the Second Suffolk District to strengthen programming and infrastructure. The senator noted that "thanks to the passage of the Fair Share Amendment in 2022, which implemented the Millionaires Tax, Massachusetts has been able to make up for significant cuts" at the federal level by investing more substantially in public education and transportation.

The supplemental budget includes direct funding for numerous schools and community initiatives across the district, ranging from Dr. Albert D. Holland High School of Technology to Orchard Gardens K-8, along with afterschool programming at several Boston public schools and initiatives like the Boston Debate League and Tech Boston Academy.
