Senator Miranda Announces $4.6 Million in District Priorities

By Senator Liz Miranda

The Massachusetts Senate passed its Fiscal Year 2027 budget proposal last Thursday — a $63.3 billion spending plan emphasizing education, local aid, housing stability, and assistance for low-income residents. This budget was developed amid ongoing federal and economic uncertainty.

The budget allocates significant resources to anti-hunger initiatives, directing over $265 million toward anti-hunger, food security, and economic security. These funds include support for the Department of Transitional Assistance caseworkers, emergency food assistance programs, and the Healthy Incentives Program that benefits local farmers and promotes nutritious food access.

The spending plan safeguards vulnerable populations by maintaining existing protections for families receiving transitional aid benefits. It rejects the Governor's proposed restructuring while preserving support services for families transitioning to employment and preventing abrupt benefit terminations for homeless recipients.
