Senator Miranda Secures $5.5 Million in Senate's FY25 Budget

By Office of Senator Liz Miranda

BOSTON, MA — Senator Liz Miranda announced that the Massachusetts Senate's Fiscal Year 2025 budget includes $5.5 million in targeted investments for the Second Suffolk District — funds she fought to include through the Senate Ways and Means process.

The earmarks span a range of community needs, from public safety to housing to economic development, and reflect Senator Miranda's comprehensive legislative agenda for the district.

Budget Highlights

$2.1 Million for Affordable Housing Support for community land trusts and affordable housing production, including targeted investments in Roxbury and Dorchester to preserve and expand housing stock for low- and moderate-income residents.

$1.5 Million for Youth Programs Funding for after-school programming, summer youth employment, and violence intervention initiatives serving young people across the nine neighborhoods of the Second Suffolk District.

$1.2 Million for Public Health Investments in community health centers, maternal health programs, and mental health services to address persistent health disparities facing communities of color in the district.

$700,000 for Small Business Support Technical assistance, micro-grants, and workforce development resources for minority-owned and women-owned small businesses in the district.

Senator Miranda's Statement

"The FY25 budget represents a real down payment on equity for the Second Suffolk District," said Senator Miranda. "Every dollar we secured went through a rigorous process — we had to make the case, build the coalitions, and fight for our communities in every budget negotiation. I'm proud of what we accomplished."

The full Senate budget now goes to a conference committee with the House of Representatives, where the final figures will be negotiated. Senator Miranda indicated she will continue fighting for the district's priorities in that process.
